Spring’s Dance
In the Anne Fontaine White Shirt Challenge, Students were challenged to design and create a white shirt inspired and sponsored by the Anne Fontaine Brand and Anne Fontaine herself. From design to finishes students created their own white shirts to submit to Anne Fontaine to look at the students creativity and to select a scholarship award winner out of the participants.
This challenge provided a learning experience I will never forget, getting to challenge myself in my pattern drafting and construction abilities and techniques helped me to actively engage and absorb myself into the design process of making my own shirt. I prioritized comfort along with style using a lace overlay on the shirt and french seams on the inside so that the lace would not irritate the wearers skin. The cotton poplin had some stretch to the fabric that many struggled with, but from my own previous sewing experiences I was able to navigate the stretch woven fabric with ease, with assistance from a Teflon sewing foot.
